Module 3:
Ensuring the Safety of Children in Substitute Care
This module is designed to be a six hour training that focuses on keeping children safe while in care. The module provides information on how this outcome can be integrated into daily casework and performance tools that help casework professionals better manage toward this outcome. This module was developed specifically for the Illinois child welfare system; however, the material can be adapted and used for child welfare systems outside of Illinois. The module has not been updated since March, 2005 so the data used in the section 'Understanding Your Performance Data' is out dated. Likewise, the 'agency performance data' that is mentioned in this training module is no longer available. Agencies would need to replace this entire section with their own current data. This training module is considered beginner to intermediate level. It is designed for staff at the field level.

ENSURING THE SAFETY OF CHILDREN IN SUBSTITUTE CARE Handout #4: Safety Tracking Tool--
.xls or
.pdf This handout is a performance tool that was designed to keep a chronological log of
CERAP's (risk and safety assessment used in Illinois) that are completed on a case. The
individual CERAP forms will provide more detailed information; however, this tool will
provide workers with a quick glance at the number and types of safety concerns that have
been identified with this case. This tool works most effectively if an agency can
download client information automatically into the tool instead of recording the
information manually. Workers can use this tool to present safety/risk information at
court and ACRs. It will also help workers identify trends with safety concerns. This
tool can be given to participants during the training on a disk so that they can use it
own their cases. This tool is not completed during the training. |
