Search Screen and Results (Figures 4, 5, and 6)
Figure 4 below shows the search screen which displays the assessment factors that can be selected and searched either individually or in combination, across the cases. The factors are grouped by categories  corresponding to the major areas of assessment. The search can be executed on an 'AND'/'OR' basis by selecting the appropriate radio button situated at the bottom of the screen shot.

To conduct a search, first consider the type of the search you wish to conduct.  The search type section (2) gives you two choices:

Find factors a AND b AND....

Find factors a OR b OR ....

The first type of search is referred to as a Boolean AND search. This type of search means that for a scene to be included in the search results, it will have to include ALL of the factors you select.  The more factors you select, the fewer results will be returned.

The second type of search is referred to as a Boolean OR search.  In this type of search, a scene need only include ANY of the factors you select, to be included in the results.  The more factors you select, the more results will be returned.

After selecting the type of search (or using the default AND/OR), select one or more individual factors by clicking each corresponding check box in section 3.  Then click the 'Search' button (1).

As an example, we selected the first three factors under the first category and accepted the default AND/OR search type.  After clicking the 'Search' button, we are returned to the case screen, shown in Figure 5 below.

Notice the labeled areas of Figure 5:

4 - This section indicates how many results were returned from your search.  In this example, the search yielded 23 case-scenes where one or more of the selected factors had been assigned to the scene.

5 - This section summarizes the search criteria, reminding you that the search conducted had been an 'OR' type search, and lists all of the factors selected.

6- This section provides two mechanisms for looking at the cases.  The drop-down menu and navigation buttons (see detail below).

The search results consists of a list of cases and scenes.  This list is provided in alphabetical order by case and numerically by scene within each case.  You can select any case-scene to examine by using this menu.  The navigation buttons to the right of the menu allow you to move among the list of cases returned by the search.  The button controls are: first, previous, next, last, respectively, and apply only to the set of returned case-scenes.

Once you select a case, the case screen expands to display the scene narrative for that case-scene AND the standard scene navigation controls. You may now use the scene navigation buttons to view all scenes within the current case WITHOUT losing your search results.  (You can also use the case selection menu at the top left of the screen to move to a case not included in your search results, without losing the search results.)  The set of returned case-scenes will remain available to you until you click the 'Clear Search' button at the top right of the screen.
