CARA: Child Abuse Risk Assessment
Beena Choksi, Hyun Ah Kang and John Poertner
The development of CARA, a web-based learning environment for child protection workers, is a collaborative project between the Children & Family Research Center, the School of Social Work at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services. This project consists of several elements: 1) the CARA online learning environment developed by Beena Choksi, which is now complete and available on the Children and Family Research website (http://cfrcwww.social.uiuc.edu/cara/); 2) a CARA-CD-ROM version for IDCFS use only that, while paralleling the existing online version closely, will focus specifically on the fourteen Illinois Child Endangerment Risk Assessment Protocol (CERAP) safety factors; and finally, 3) CARA-CERAP Training for IDCFS personnel that will provide trainees with hands on practice in applying the CERAP safety factors through the use of CARA’s ten cases.
